About favicon generator
A favicon is sixteen pixels doing brand work, and the most common mistake is feeding it a logo designed for a business card. At that size there is room for one shape or one letter, and anything more becomes a coloured smudge in a tab. The second most common mistake is exporting a single file and missing the five other sizes that phones and bookmarks look for.

What favicon sizes do I actually need?
16 and 32 for browser tabs, 180 for the Apple touch icon, and 192 plus 512 for Android and the web app manifest. That set covers essentially everything in use.
Why does my favicon look like a smudge?
Because a detailed logo does not survive being shrunk to 16 pixels. Favicons need a simplified mark, often a single letter or shape, rather than the full logo with wordmark.
Do I still need an .ico file?
Rarely. Modern browsers all read PNG favicons. An .ico is only needed for very old Internet Explorer support, which most sites no longer target.
Where do the files go?
In the site root, with link tags in the head pointing at each size. Putting them in the root also means browsers that guess at /favicon.ico still find something.
