Nothing gets clipped
Rotating by anything other than a quarter turn makes an image need more room. The canvas expands to hold it rather than cutting the corners.
Fine angles, not just 90 degrees
A horizon two degrees off is the most common rotation there is, and a quarter-turn button cannot fix it.
Fixes orientation properly
Photos that look right on a phone and sideways everywhere else are carrying an EXIF orientation flag. Rotating here bakes the correct orientation into the pixels.

Rotation is two different jobs wearing the same name. One is the sideways holiday photo, which is a quarter turn and takes a click. The other is the two-degree tilt in a picture of a building, which is the difference between a photo that looks professional and one that feels subtly wrong, and which no quarter-turn button will ever fix.

Why does my photo look sideways on some devices but not others?
Phone cameras store the image one way and add an EXIF orientation tag telling software to turn it. Software that ignores the tag shows it sideways. Rotating here writes the right orientation into the actual pixels, so it looks correct everywhere.
Does rotating lose quality?
Quarter turns are lossless, they just move pixels. Custom angles have to resample, which is a very small softening you would need to zoom in to notice.
Why did my image get bigger after rotating?
A rotated rectangle needs a larger rectangle to contain it. The extra area is transparent, or white if you export as JPG.
How do I straighten a crooked horizon?
Use the custom angle in small increments, one or two degrees, then crop in slightly afterwards to remove the transparent wedges the rotation creates at the corners.
