What size is an Instagram post?
1080 by 1080 for a square, 1080 by 1350 for the taller portrait format that occupies more of the feed, and 1080 by 1920 for stories and reels.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 by 720 pixels, which is 16:9, and under 2MB. Anything smaller gets upscaled by YouTube and looks soft next to competitors.
Why does my image get cropped when I upload it?
Platforms enforce their own ratio. If yours does not match, they crop from the centre and you have no say in what is lost. Fitting to the right ratio first is what prevents it.
Should I fit or crop to a platform size?
Fit when the whole image matters, like a product shot or a graphic with text. Crop when the subject is central and the edges are just background.
